The Athabasca Jills women’s hockey team mixed things up with their second annual Jack and Jills Hockey Tournament last weekend.

Men hit the ice and joined their female counterparts as teammates and competitors for the fun, three-day event at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex, in which eight different teams took part.

“It turned out great. Everybody had a good time,” said one member of the Jills, Penny Smith.

She was also a member of the team that came out on top in the tournament, the Adamkewicz ‘Scotiabank’ squad. They came from behind in the final game to notch an 11-9 victory over the Giacobbo ‘Backroad Contracting’ team.

During the tournament, goals scored by men counted as one point while goals scored by women counted as two.

The proceeds from the tournament (which were not tallied before press time) went to the Jills for their upcoming hockey season.
