Though the Edwin Parr Composite (EPC) Pacers football team lost an exhibition game against the Whitecourt Cats last Thursday, head coach Pete Burden said the game was a good proving ground for the Pacers’ new linebacking core and offence package.
“Guys don’t really go the same speed in practice as what you see in the game,” said Burden of the exhibition game’s value.
Burden said the Pacers have run the same offence for the last three years, but with a new quarterback, Gaetano Minto, they are switching to a read-style offence, which relies on Minto reading the other team’s defence.
With only 17 players at Thursday’s game, Burden said some had to play the whole game.
He hopes to have 25 or 26 players once school is in session.
He said, “I think we’ll be okay come Friday,” when the Pacers will host their season opener against the Vegreville Vortex at 5 p.m. at EPC.
