The Midget ‘A’ Hawks of Athabasca are still on the hunt for their first win.

The team lost a pair of games last weekend (6-5 at home to Slave Lake on Friday and 9-2 in Wabasca on Saturday), dropping their record to 0-4 on the season.

The game on Friday may have been the tougher pill to swallow, as the Hawks were up 5-3 in the final period before the game slipped away from them.

“We were messing around in our own zone,” noted head coach Darcy Tangedal of the disappointing loss. “We struggled a little bit in the first period, we got better in the second, but in the third we lost our legs.”

There were some positives to come out of Friday night’s loss. Team captain Sam Davis had another stellar game, scoring four goals. And goaltender Jordan Uchytil produced a standout effort, stopping all but six of the 48 shots he faced.

“He was making saves he had no business making,” said the coach of Uchytil.

The coach was also impressed with his team’s ability to convert on their chances.

“When we did get opportunities, we scored.”

Or, more accurately, Davis scored.

“I got some great passes from my wingers and defensemen,” said Davis.

The team will try to get into the win column with a pair of road games this weekend.
