A flag football team is kicking off this spring.
Landing Trail Intermediate School (LTIS) will officially launch the Wolverines flag football team pilot project next Monday.
For six weeks – from May 2 to June 11 – boys and girls of all skill levels will have a chance to play after school from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Former coach of the Edwin Parr Composite Pacers football team, Terry Smith, is taking the reins and is amped for the fun and antics with the Grades 4 to 7 students.
The Wolverines will play a watered down version of football – no contact, blocking or special teams – but will learn all the official terms and plays.
LTIS is offering the sport free of charge with no equipment is required to play, just running shoes and gym clothes.
All students are welcome to sign up and will be split into teams to play against each other, based on their ages.
Smith assured that everyone will have a chance to play all positions.
“There’ll be no wallflowers,” he said jokingly.
The games will be jamboree style – 10 downs, coaches on the playing field and with the spirit of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Permission forms will go out Monday.
