It was almost like he saw two completely different teams show up.
North Central Midget AA Bulls head coach Jody Tangedal was amazed at what a great crowd showed up Friday night at the Multiplex only to witness the club’s worst came of the season, then see his team play a solid positional game on Sunday in Lac La Biche.
Friday’s ‘worst’ effort ended up showing in on the scoreboard as the Strathcona Warriors clobbered the Bulls 11-1.
Zach Bendall notched the home squad’s lone marker with less than minute to go in the first, in really the lone positive of the game.
“It was disappointing,” said Tangedal.
“We had a good crowd out to watch us play what felt like our worst game of the season. We had no structure and really looked disorganized. Strathcona is a good team, but we made them look like world beaters.”
Sunday’s result against Grande Prairie – an 8-1 loss – may not look great, but for Tangedal is was almost opposite of what he saw in Athabasca.
“We worked on our structure and played much better positional hockey,” he said.
“Grande Prairie is a very good team, so although the result was not in our favour, I thought we could take a lot of positives from the way we played.”
Tyson Tymo scored the goal for the Bulls in Sunday’s loss.
The Bulls are back in Lac La Biche on the weekend for a pair of games.
On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., they host Edmonton’s Canadian Athletic Club and follow that up with a 2 p.m. start versus the South Side Athletic Club of Edmonton.
