Golf tournament raises money for Slave Lake volunteer fire department

Supporting Slave Lake was pretty fun at the Athabasca Golf Club on Saturday, where Manitoulin Transport and Buy-Low Foods hosted the 20th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

Supporting Slave Lake was pretty fun at the Athabasca Golf Club on Saturday, where Manitoulin Transport and Buy-Low Foods hosted the 20th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

Luckily for golfers, it was a beautiful day to spend on the course, and a fun one too. There were special games and challenges on every hole, as well as Manitoulin’s special ‘putting hole’.

Money raised from the event was earmarked for the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service. When all was said and done, the Service and its chief Jamie Coutts received $3,430 to go towards the replacement of equipment that was lost in the fires earlier this year.

“It’s humbling,” he said. “You don’t know how good your neighbours are until something happens.”

Locally, event organizers like Manitoulin’s Donna Lafleur and Heather Carlson were just happy to help.

“Every little bit helps,” said Carlson.
