The third time was not the charm for local mixed martial arts fighter Tim Hague.

At least, not in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The Boyle native and Edmonton resident’s third crack at MMA’s premier organization came to an end when the UFC released him last week.

The release came in spite of Hague’s career winning record in MMA (12-5).

However, just one of those wins has come in the UFC — a submission victory over Pat Barry in 2009 — where he owns a record of 1-4.

His most recent fight was at the UFC Fight For The Troops 2 event in Ford Hood, Texas on Jan. 22, a first round TKO loss to Matt Mitrione.

His UFC career also includes losses to Todd Duffee, Chris Tuchscherer and Joey Beltran.

Speaking to his fans via his Facebook page, Hague pledged to make a comeback.

“I'm gonna take a little break away from MMA, let the brain heal from my concussion, and get the passion/fire back,” he said. “Even toying with the idea of trying a cut to 205 (pounds).

“I will be back though. I'm only 27, and I will make it back to the UFC.”
