The March Meltdown Tournament runs this weekend, where spectators can watch 12 hockey teams battle it out at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex.
Attendees can also enter a draw for two mini fridges filled with wine and beer.
“It’s refreshments for when they get home,” said tournament organizer Katherine Tremblay.
Athabasca’s Jills hockey team is hosting the tournament, and Tremblay, who is also the Jills’ manager, said with six men’s teams and six women’s teams from as far as Edmonton, Clyde and Westlock participating, the hockey is bound to entertain.
“It’s free to get in,” said Tremblay. “So come on down, whether it’s family or friends — come take a look and watch some hockey before the season is completely over.
“It’s the season finale for us,” Tremblay added of the Jills.
The tournament begins Friday night, running from 6–10 p.m.
On Saturday, games begin bright and early at 8 a.m. and run until 12:30 a.m. early the following morning.
“We have a full day of hockey Saturday,” said Tremblay.
On Sunday, the puck drops at 8 a.m.; the women’s final is at 2 p.m., while the men’s is at 3:30 p.m.
