The Barrhead Icehawks dominated the game against Drayton Valley’s Bobdale Bandits on Tuesday, Dec. 27, ending the onslaught with a final score of 12-3.
In the first period, Liam Rentz started things off with a goal at about 13 minutes in.
Renko Wepener added to the gap with one of his own, with less than one minute remaining in the period.
Heading into the second period with a score of 2-0, the Icehawks’ Mason Zwicker, assisted by Wepener and Tanner Harrison, managed to get one past the Bandits goalie Dillon Chambers, eight minutes in. Wepener, Rentz and Brett Visser each would go on to score goals of their own as well, widening Barrhead’s lead, bringing the score to 6-0.
Despite pressure from the Bandits and a tripping penalty served by Visser, the Icehawks maintained their lead until the third period when, at the seven minute mark, Bandits’ forward Colby Callan ended the stalemate and got one past Icehawks’ goalie Drake Young.
In retaliation, Hiemstra, with assistance by Rentz, fired back with one goal, Rentz scored three more of his own and Wepener added to the point blitz.
The Bandits rallied and scored two goals, bringing the score to 11-3 before Icehawks’ player Cash Gilbert ended the period with one more for Barrhead.
