The Athabasca Midget ‘A’ Hawks notched a pair of wins over Jasper last weekend to remain undefeated this season.
The teams played a double header at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex, with one game on Saturday and the other on Sunday. The Hawks won the first by a score of 4-0 and the second 9-2.
“You can’t complain about a shutout,” said Hawks player Cody Bishop after the first game. Bishop and his teammate Coulton Sheets heaped plenty of praise on their goaltender, Robbie Mason, who enjoyed a strong game on Saturday.
Of course, there’s another reason the Hawks keep winning.
“We’re scoring,” said Sheets.
The scoreboard backs him up on that point, with the team pouring in 13 goals over two days. That’s a success rate that any team can be proud of, and the Hawks are working hard for it.
“We’re pretty competitive,” said Bishop.
That’s no surprise to head coach Duane Terrien, who has been continually impressed with the team’s work effort since the season began.
“They’re dedicated. They’re coming to practice and they’re prepared,” said the coach.
“So far, so good.”
