Westlock Minor Hockey has a new president.

On April 25, Denise Boulerice was selected to replace Dean Fagnan as president of the Westlock Minor Hockey Association.

“She has been on the board for a number of years and has two boys playing hockey in Westlock,” said Fagnan, who will remain on the board in advisory role as past-president. “She loves the game of hockey and is not afraid of helping out and getting involved.

“She’ll do a great job.”

And Fagnan isn’t the only one who thinks Boulerice, who is his sister, will do a fine job.

“Denise is one of those people that works very hard and has a lot of things on the go and will put her energy towards minor hockey which is good,” said Tate McNelly, who remains as association vice-president.

“She’s there for the betterment of Westlock Minor Hockey and that’s what we need.”

And Boulerice is eager to dive in expand on what her brother has done at the helm.

“I am very excited to move forward with our hockey board and start planning for next year,” she said. “In May, we will have an organizational meeting and there are some important topics that need to be addressed right away. We have to set a budget and that will determine our registration costs. We also have some league issues to vote on like the possibility of no contact hockey in tiers 4/5 from the pee-wee ranks up.”

In addition to Boulerice, a new association secretary and treasurer will be announced today, April 29.

“There’s a few new changes and I’m looking forward to the new year,” McNelly added, indicating the group has already been attending 1660 Hockey League meetings.

“It’s already in full swing.”
