There may be some people unhappy with the loads of snow the Barrhead area has been getting, but skiers and snowboarders are not among them.
Misty Ridge Ski Hill officially opened for the season Dec. 15, and about 160 people came out to celebrate on the slopes.
To start off the new season, Misty Ridge is in the process of renaming Suicide Run by way of a contest. So far there are about 30 entries, said Hill manager Greg Reschke.
Entries are still being accepted until Dec. 22, which can be sent to [email protected]. The selected winner will be awarded a prize, and more importantly, bragging rights.
This year the hill has two official instructors, one for snowboarding and the other for skiing. Lessons can be arranged by calling ahead to set something up.
“Now we have a ski and a snowboard instructor who are certified, which is the big thing,” said Reschke. “We used to have some guys go and just give a hand and try to teach people, but now we have certified instructors.”
Another big—and delicious—change to Misty Ridge is the new kitchen staff. This year Reschke said a chef will be preparing the meals, who will be preparing top notch food from grilled cheese to big and scrumptious burgers.
“The food is way better this year,” said Reschke. “That a big thing for sure.”
At this point, with snow already amounting to what Misty Ridge saw in January last season, Reschke said this season is looking to be a good one.
In addition to plentiful snow, hill pass sales are doing well too.
Judging by the high amount of season passes the hill sold over the opening weekend, Reschke said Misty Ridge looks to be heading towards success in the coming months.
“The weekend was great. It’s more passes than most other years,” he said. “That should be a sign of how good it is.”
