Nine zone medals for Grassland badminton players

Grassland Schoolís badminton players made their presence felt at the recent zone and conference championships.

The schoolís senior badminton team competed at the conference event in Westlock on April 18. The 15 students who made the trip from Grassland brought home a remarkable 11 medals.

ìItís amazing for such a small school,î said coach Trudy Gauthier.

Gold medal winners in Westlock included Rick Ballard/Linden Gauthier, Marissa Matoga/Tristan Tymo, Mason Evancusky/Harley Kononchuk, Shyan Hyrynk/Payton Tymo and Dalton Gauthier. Bronze medals went to Courtney St.Jean/Marina Chopoidalo.

The gold medal winners advanced to the zone championship in Edmonton on April 24, and all nine of them brought home medals.

ì(Itís) such a great accomplishment as we have under 30 students in the high school and yet such a terrific representation. Having so many winners is amazing,î said Gauthier.

Grasslandís medal winners included Dalton Gauthier (silver, senior boys singles), Mason Evancusky/Harley Kononchuk (gold, intermediate mixed), and Shyan Hyrynk/Payton Tymo (bronze, junior doubles).

Five students will compete at provincials.
