Pacer blanked on wet night in Westlock

It wasn’t a great night for a game, but the weather was no excuse for the Athabasca Pacers getting no points for the second straight time.

It wasn’t a great night for a game, but the weather was no excuse for the Athabasca Pacers getting no points for the second straight time.

The Pacers lost 26-0 in Westlock Friday on a water-logged field that did affect the game, but not nearly as much as the Pacers inability to execute their offence.

“We fumbled the ball away on our first three possessions. Our offence just couldn’t get it together,” said Pacers head coach Pete Burden.

“We moved the ball, but then a dropped pass or some other mistake had us miss several opportunities to score with the ball inside their 10-yard line”

And with Westlock’s usual power running attack working well, the Pacers defence had to adjust and gave up the occasional big play.

So, desperate times, like a must-win Friday at home to Vegreville, call for extreme measures.

“We are going with a completely new offence this week, including seven new starters,” Burden said.

“Something has to be done and hopefully this is a bit of wake up call for the team. We’ve had two touchdowns this season and that’s not good enough, especially since we need to win our next two games if we hope to play another game at home.”

Friday’s contest (kick off at 4 p.m.) also marks the Pacers Salute to Seniors game, where the three graduating players will be recognized following the game.
