Edwin Parr Composite Pacers coach Pete Burden is issuing a call to all football players — or even those who think they might like to be one — to attend the Pacers spring football camp.
“We definitely need bodies. We need a minimum of 20. It would be nicer to have 30 kids out,” he said.
The month-long camp at Edwin Parr Composite is open to anyone in Grades 8 to 11. It begins with equipment fitting and classroom sessions April 28 and 29. The first practice will be April 30.
From then on, practices will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the month of May, save for long weekends.
Once spring camp wraps up, players will have the summer off.
“We’ll start the third week in August with our training camp, and then we’ll play our first game the first Friday that school’s in,” said Burden.
There is a $100 cost to attend the camp, but Burden said players don’t have to pay it until they’re sure they want to commit.
“They don’t have to pay it right away. They can come out and try it for a couple weeks before they actually have to pay,” he said.
Registration is May 7, and Burden said he would like for the fee to be paid by then.
“When they come back in the fall, then it’s $150. If they don’t play in the spring and they play in the fall, then it’s $250,” he said.
Burden added that during spring camp, players don’t have to come to every practice. He said he knows the camp impinges on soccer and baseball season, and he doesn’t want kids to have to compromise their involvement in those sports.
