For the visiting Maskwacis Hawks at times it must have seemed like the Barrhead Flyers could score at will — and to paraphrase Dr. Leonard McCoy of Star Trek fame, ‘ Brother do they have a lot of will.’

On Friday, Jan 20, the Flyers defeated the Maskwacis Hawks 11-4 in Peewee 1 action.

The offence started six minutes into the first period on a goal by Owen Stoik. Two minutes later he added to Barrhead’s lead. By the end of the period the Flyers would score two more times on markers by Kolby Miller and Jamie Visser to end the period leading 4-2.

In the second period the scoring slowed down with both teams scoring a goal. Barrhead’s was Kai Stranaghan just short of the six minute mark.

However, it was the third period when the Flyers really put the game out of reach outscoring their opponents six goals to two.

Miller once again got the ball rolling with a power play goal about three minutes into the frame. Officially the goal was scored one second before the period started due to a scoreboard issue which added more time to the clock. To account for the added time, the clock continued to run without interruption, even when there were stoppages in play. Before the end of the period, Miller would score one more time for the hat trick. Kayden Rentz, Visser and Carter Greilaich (2) scored before the end of the period.

Brady Callihoo stopped 26 out of 30 shots for the victory. The win brings Barrhead’s season record to 7-6-1. The Flyers’ next home game is on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m.
