The Westlock Pee Wee Warriors are provincial silver medalists following a tight 4-2 loss to the High Prairie Lumber Blades on Sunday at the Provincial ‘C’ Hockey Championships in Tofield.

Keenan Fortier got the Warriors on the board with a goal at 14:42 of the first before High Prairie responded late in the frame sending the clubs to the break tied 1-1.

In the second, Zaidyn Pipke’s marker at 14:58 restored the Warriors’ one-goal advantage, but it wasn’t meant to be as the Lumber Blades managed to find the back of the net three more times over the final 35 minutes to claim gold.

The club opened the three-day championship tournament March 19 with a commanding 8-3 win over Marwayne.

The Warriors stayed on the warpath Friday with a 10-4 victory over the Thorsby Thunder.

On Saturday the club locked up top spot in the ‘A’ pool and a date in the semifinal with 10-1 drubbing of the Tofield Titans.

While the round-robin portion of the tourney may have been a cakewalk for the club, the Sunday-morning semifinal tilt versus Claresholm was anything but. Westlock held a 5-2 lead midway into the third period until the Thunder began to roll, tying the contest 5-5 with less than six minutes to play to force overtime.

Stunned, the Warriors were able to regroup in the intermission with Ryan Conquergood netting the game winner with less than six minutes to play in OT.
