Although it’s only the pre-season, the Barrhead Novice Pirates are already bringing their best game.
The boys hit the ice against Rivierre Qui Barre Chiefs over the weekend for an exciting Saturday night game, claiming a victory of 5-3.
Although the Pirates stepped off the ice with a win, the first period didn’t look promising for Barrhead.
After almost 10 minutes of no scoring action, the Chiefs landed the first goal of the game. Barrhead’s Dylan Callihoo retaliated with a goal of his own, assisted by Trystan Cameron, to bring the game to a tie with six minutes left in period one.
Unfortunately the Chiefs would have the last say in the first, scoring once again with just under two minutes remaining.
Heading into the second period, Barrhead was down 2-1.
Just four minutes in, the Chiefs scored yet another goal against the Pirates, upping their lead with a score of 3-1. Fortunately for Barrhead, this would be their opponents last hurrah.
Just under the eight minute mark, the Pirates kick-started their comeback with a goal from Cameron, assisted by Josh Starman and Brady De Rudder.
The Pirates only needed one more goal to tie the game, and they delivered. With a little more than three minutes on the clock, Callihoo scored with assists from De Rudder and Cameron.
With less than a minute to go, it looked as though the Pirates and Chiefs would head into the final period of the game tied 3-3. Then Barrhead kicked into overdrive.
With the clock ticking down to end the second period, Starman made his move and scored against the Chiefs to take the lead, assists going to Michael Jameison and Brayden Bujold.
The boys left the ice with the crowd cheering.
Going into the third and final period of the game, Barrhead sealed the deal with one goal just seconds in. Tanner Whiting, assisted by Mitch Carstairs, shot the last goal in the game for a final score of 5-3.
