It turns out Pirates are more predatory than predators. At least they were on Saturday, Jan. 3 when the Stony Plain Bantam A Predators visited Barrhead Agrena to take on the home town Pirates.

After one period of play the Pirates led the Predators 2 to 0 on goals from Justin Haltiner just after the half mark of the period and a goal by Owen Weeks late in the period.

Despite being up by two goals the teams seemed evenly matched, with the Pirates having a slight edge on shots (10 to 7) along with territorial advantage.

In the second period the Pirates took control of the game, spured on by Weeks’ strange late first period goal on a shot from centre ice.

In the second period the Pirates outshot their opponents by 22 to 10 and scored two more unanswered goals, both by Ace Marquez.

In the third period, the Pirates continued their dominance, once again outshooting the Predators 16 to 8 and out scoring them by a margin of 2 to1. Scoring goals for the Pirates in the third period were Marquez, completing the natural hat trick and William McKeever.

The Predators scored their only goal of the game close to the midway mark, spoiling Pirates goaltender Ty Steinbring’s shutout.
