There were some big positives the past week for a struggling senior boys basketball team.
It began last Tuesday on their home floor with a 59-53 victory over Devon, in a game that nearly slipped away from the Edwin Parr Composite Predators club.
“The win against Devon was great,” stated Predators coach Mitchell Snow.
“We really played well the first three quarters, then we started to coast a bit in the fourth with the lead.”
Snow managed to get the team turned around and playing back up to par to hang onto for the win.
“When it really came down to crunch time, we locked in defensively and held on,” he added.
This past weekend at the tournament in Morinville wasn’t as good, especially as the team hit the court with just seven players.
Snow explained they got off to a really slow start versus Morinville, and by the time they found their stride in the second half, the result was a foregone conclusion.
Their next game, against Edmonton’s Louis St. Laurent, was even tougher since it came just 90 minutes after their opening game.
“With such a short bench, it was hard to keep fresh legs on the floor,” Snow said.
We battled hard all and gave everything we had.”
The boys ended the weekend with a 61-45 loss to Onoway, after not being able to recover from a rough third quarter.
“With how many players we had, we actually had a strong showing,” Snow said.
He’s hoping for a better outcome this weekend at a tournament in Cold Lake, given some key players will be back.
Girls Win
The senior girls will also be in Cold Lake after a weekend off to nurse a few injuries and savouring their 54-37 win over Devon last Tuesday.
