The Rich Valley Skating Club is hosting their 36th Annual Skating Carnival on Sunday, Mar. 15.
The event kicks off at 2 p.m. at the Rich Valley Agriplex. Tickets cost $3 for those over the age of five and include a ticket for the door prize.
Nicole Jackson, organizer, said that there are tables where parents or grandparents can purchase a stuffed animal to throw on the ice after the performance.
“We always host the event so that all of our skaters have a chance to perform and demonstrate all of the skills that they have learned throughout the season,” Jackson said, adding it is important that the skaters have this opportunity.
“They work so hard, so for them it’s a big deal, that’s an important day for them,” Jackson explained.
Parents and other family members are not the only ones invited to attend the event.
“Most of the time it’s people from the community, but a lot of times it’s grandmas and grandpas, and aunties and uncles, and they (the skaters) get to go out there and show everybody what they learned,” Jackson said.
Skaters will perform with their skill level, and have spent the winter season learning new techniques in preparation for this event.
“The CanSkate, they are learning more of the simple skating techniques, the bubbles and backwards skating, and a little bit of stuff like that,” Jackson said.
The junior StarSkate group is learning more of the figure skating techniques, and will be using those skills in their performance.
Jackson said that some of the youth in the junior level are learning jumps, spirals and other figure skating moves.
The senior StarSkate group is working on more intricate techniques.
“It will be good, and I am excited to see how it all turns out,” Jackson said. “They’ve been working hard.”
Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event.
