The Rock posted a 2-2 mark through the round robin and dropped the Sunday bronze-medal game 6-3 to the Hornets.

The Westlock Rock's quest for a provincial medal came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon.

At the Midget Lacrosse Provincial ‘B' Championships in Ponoka, held July 12-14, the Rock dropped a tough 6-3 decision to the Calgary Hornets in the bronze-medal game.

'It was a really good season," said Rock coach Kevin Peyre following the defeat.

'We went 2-2 in the round robin and then played in the bronze medal game. We really can't complain - we had a really good tournament and a really good team."

The Rock started off the tourney on Friday morning versus the host Ponoka squad - the Lacoka Locos. Peyre said his team had a few kinks to iron out after the first period.

'We made several mistakes," said the coach. 'It took us awhile to get out feet under us."

Following those adjustments Peyre said the boys went on to post a 7-3 win.

Later that night the Rock dropped a tight 6-4 decision to the Innisfail Phantoms.

'That game was probably our weakest one so far," said Peyre. 'I think the guys were a little tired, it was the second game of the day. So, we came out a little sluggish but we got some things done - it was tough."

The following day, July 13, the Rock rolled to a 7-5 win over the Calgary Hornets, before falling 8-2 to the Lakeland Heat.

The Midget Rock qualified for provincials following an 8-5 win over the Leduc Crush on July 3 in Edmonton to claim the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council title.

Looking back on the campaign, Peyre said the boys should be proud of what they accomplished.

'We've had some tough games and we had some really good games," said Peyre. 'It's been a fun year."
