Westlock’s junior Rock lacrosse team remains undefeated in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League play with two strong wins last weekend.

The team started the weekend with a 17-4 win over the Edmonton Blues on June 13 at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre. They followed that up with a 15-6 win over the Grande Prairie Thrashers on June 15 at home.

The wins move the team to 10-0 on the season.

Coach Mike Ivey said the way the team’s been playing this year, they have a chance to do something special. But in order to have a special season, he said the Rock need to stick to their game and keep working on their skills.

“To get there, we need to stay sharp,” he said.

With only five games remaining in the regular season, it’s crucial the Rock work out their kinks so they’re ready for the playoffs.

“We have to step up in the playoffs because anything can happen in the playoffs,” Ivey said.

Sunday’s game against the Thrashers was a prime example of the team stepping up with a strong performance in light less-than-favourable conditions.

Ivey explained the team was missing a few players, which meant some bench players had to step up and fill in the gaps.

“It shows the depth we have that they stepped up to the plate,” he said.

Next up for the Rock is a trip to Edmonton on June 18 to take on the Wizards. The Rock return home on June 22 to play the South Edmonton Warriors.
