Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline could be heard through out the Barrhead Agrena after a game where the Steelers demolished the Fort McMurray Junior Oil Barons 14-2 in Midget ‘A’ action.
The 1969 classic song has become an anthem for the Steelers and they play it after every win.
Barrhead struck first thanks to a goal by Nicolas Botros just 1:15 seconds into the opening frame.
Tanner Whiting would add to their lead about seven minutes later.
The Oil Barons scored their first goal of the game 10 seconds short of the halfway point of the period.
Barrhead restored their two-goal lead on Brayden DeRudder’s effort less than a minute
Fort McMurray narrowed the margin once again scoring on a powerplay marker with just over five minutes to go in the period, but that is as close as the Oil Barons would get. Barrhead scored another 13 seconds later on Whiting’s second goal of the game and ended the period up 4-2.
In the second period the Steelers scored five goals and four more in the final frame.
Steelers head coach Trevor Whiting said the game was self-explanatory.
“We played a strong game, but I would have liked to see a bit more of a challenge for the boys,” he said.
The win brings Barrhead’s record to 11-3-2.
The Steelers next home game is on Dec. 23, at 1:30 p.m. against Jasper.
