Steelers defeat Edson in 1660 action

The Barrhead Steelers defeated the Edson Sabres by a score of three to one during 1660 Midget A hockey league action on Friday, Nov. 27 at the Barrhead Agrena.

The Barrhead Steelers defeated the Edson Sabres by a score of three to one during 1660 Midget A hockey league action on Friday, Nov. 27 at the Barrhead Agrena.

Barrhead opened the scoring in the last minute of the first period with a goal by Josh Starman after dominating the period. After one period of play the Steelers outshot their opponents 13 to 7.

In the second period special teams dominated the play with both teams having two man advantages for more than a minute. The Sabres were able to capitalize on their opportunity tying the game midway through the second period. Five minutes later the Steelers had their own two-man advantage, but were unable to penetrate the Sabres defense. Once again the Steelers held the shot advantage outshooting the Sabres 15 to 9.

In the third period the Steelers took the lead on a goal by Lucas Weeks less than two-minutes into the frame. Brady Derudder added some insurance when he scored at the 12-minute mark to put the Steelers up by two.

Zach Munroe went the distance in goal stopping 20 out of 21 shots and earning the win.
