When the Barrhead Steelers and Edson go head-to-head it is usually a spectacle to savour.

So it proved last Saturday at the Agrena when they fought each other to an entertaining 4-4 tie.

Two of the Steelers’ goals came from Brett Bujold; the other scorers were Koby Adams and Danny Dekker.

For those in the bleachers the teams served up some meaty post-Christmas fare.

The Steelers were quick out the blocks, controlling the first period.

They looked remarkably sharp for a team that hadn’t played or practised for over two weeks.

Head coach Jason Murrell expressed satisfaction with the Steelers’ performance.

“We had a good first period when we skated very well. In the second period, however, we took our foot off the gas a bit.”

Murrell said the team needed to be a little more intense at times.

“We generally have really good games with Edson. In fact, the whole league is very competitive.”

Murrell said the match was an opportunity for the Steelers to shake off post-holiday rust and resume playing as a solid unit.

“I think with a couple of practises this week we will get all the turkey out of our system and be good to go.”

Murrell said the Steelers would be working on their defensive zone coverage.
