The Barrhead Steelers may be a team without a league, but that does not mean they will not be playing any games this year.

On Friday, Jan. 9, the Steelers will be playing in an exhibition game against a team from Prince George. The Steelers are a midget team (15 to 17 year old) who won the 2014 Midget B Championship, but because of a clerical issue, this year do not have a league to play in.

Usually the Steelers play in the 1660 League, with other tier III teams, but ended up after a few weeks moving up to the North Central League to play stronger calibre teams.

This year the Steelers had hoped to start the year in the NCL, but they missed the application deadline due to a communication error.

The NCL contacted the Barrhead Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) asking if they wanted to play in the stronger league, but apparently contacted the wrong person in the association.

Because of the problem in communications the BMHA missed the deadline to play in the NCL and the 1660 League decided the Steelers’ play was at too high of a level and said they should sit this year out.

This has forced the coaches and executive of the Steelers to organize exhibition games for the team, the next being against a team from Prince George.

The puck drop for the Steelers’ exhibition game is 6:15 p.m.
