The Barrhead Atom Elks played a tough game against the Devon Drillers on Sunday, Dec. 28.
It was looking like a shutout for the Drillers, going into the third period with a score of 6-0, and 28-11 in their favor.
The Drillers started the second period off shorthanded, after a body checking/unsportsmanlike conduct call made with only 1:21 left in the second.
Carter Reeves of the Devon Drillers came onto the ice at 17:18 into the third period.
The third period was strongly played by the Elks, with a goal by Kyle Kleinfeldt at 16:17.
Shortly after scoring, the Elks kick their game up a notch, with Sam McKale skating down the ice towards the Drillers’ net, taking a shot that was ultimately saved by Ethan Saskiw, goalie for the Drillers.
Friends and family could be heard cheering for both teams throughout the game.
The Drillers headed down the ice on a breakaway, which was cut short by Trysten Hallock.
The Drillers took home the win with a loss of 7-1 for the Elks with only 17-35 shots on net.
The Elks ended the game shorthanded after McKale received a penalty for roughing, at 1:01.
Two penalties were given to the Drillers, one for roughing, and one for body-checking/unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Elks received four penalties, three for roughing and one for tripping.
