The Barrhead Orioles played a great game of baseball against the visiting Parkland Twins, on Thursday, May 12, where despite three pitching changes and an incredible amount of teammate motivation by the Twins, the Orioles won 12-4.

Starting pitcher Tanner Whiting struck out the Twins’ first three batters in quick succession, allowing the visitors no chance to get a piece of the action — a trend that continued throughout much of the second inning as well.

However, Parkland’s Austin Latreille managed one run after being struck by a pitch and walked to first, bringing the score to 0-1 in the beginning of the second inning.

With two outs, Barrhead’s Lee Worobec stole home for the first run of the game for Barrhead, followed by both Mitch Carstairs and Landon Sonneberg who also crossed home plate, bringing the score to 3-1 for the Orioles.

In the third inning, Logan Brandon hit a ball far into right field and slid to safety at third base before teammate Koby Adams’ own attempt at stealing bases resulted in an out, and Brandon’s run increased Barrhead’s lead by one and the Twins managed one of their own, bringing the score to 4-2.

The Orioles’ Nick Murrell, along with Worobec secured two more for Barrhead in the fourth, while the Twins’ remained unable to get anyone to home plate.

The bottom of the fifth inning, with the Orioles managing two more runs after Adams’ hit resulted in a double, and widened the gap to 6-2.

It looked like the game was all but over for Parkland.

The Twins however, were not about to let the game go so easily and brought one player to home plate, bringing the score to 6-3.

Orioles sub Darien Cyre managed another run in the sixth and Parkland managed one as well, bringing the game to 7-4 though the gap continued to widen into the seventh inning and beyond.

Carstairs, Jon Klien, Dylan Calihoo and Sonneberg all managed further runs to home plate for Barrhead during the seventh and eighth, cementing the win for the midget team, and the game ended 12-4 in the Orioles’ favour.
