Athabasca’s U18 Anarchy boys soccer team continued to dominate the competition with a big win at the Duggan Soccer Tournament last weekend.

Still undefeated in regular season play, the team went to the city for the tournament and played four games, winning three and tying one on their way to the gold medal.

First up was Yellowbird, a team that gave the Anarchy no trouble in a 5-0 victory for the Athabasca boys. The locals had a tougher challenge in their second game, a 1-1 tie against Lago Lindo, who they would battle again in the tournament finals.

Having played those two games on Saturday, the boys rested up for two more on Sunday. First up was Victoria, and a 3-0 victory for the Anarchy which moved them on to the gold medal game.

There they reunited with Lago Lindo for another close game. This time Athabasca was able to break it open, however, scoring multiple times on the way to a 4-2 win.

“It was a good experience for them,” said coach Perry LeMessurier of his team’s time at the tournament. “There was a little bit more competition (than we’re used to), some harder teams. They played really well.”

The boys are back in action with a tournament in Sherwood Park this weekend, followed by the Camrose Night Classic the following weekend.

“These tournaments all help. We get a lot more games and more experience.”
