The Edwin Parr Composite High School Pacers remain undefeated.
The team won 42-0 last Thursday with a home advantage against the Westlock Thunderbirds.
“Overall, we had pretty good performance,” coach Pete Burden said. “We started off a bit sluggish on offence and turned the ball over our first play, which didn’t look good for us.”
Burden said the defence line shut down the Thunderbirds and quickly regained control of the ball.
“Then offence took over and played pretty well the rest of the game,” he explained.
This was the last regular season game for the Pacers, as they enter the playoffs this week.
“We host a playoff game this Saturday,” Burden said, referring to Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. “The winner of that will play the winner between Westlock and Vermilion.”
Burden said if the Pacers win the tier two championship, they will play the consolation round against a tier one team.
“We came within a touchdown of winning that game last year. We want to bring the cup home this year,” he said. “That game would be Nov. 2.”
Burden hopes the team plays well enough to move up.
“That is our goal,” he explained. “We had a three-step goal this season.
“Goal one was to end up in first place, which we did last night,” he said. “Now, we have a home field advantage for the first two playoff games.”
The second goal is to win the tier two championship.
“Step three is to get to the consolation cup,” he said.
