It took a 0-2 deficit in the middle of the second period for the Steelers to come to life against the Innisfail Kinsmen Flyers on Sunday at the Agrena. Although they got a goal back before the break, their valiant third period quest for an equalizer went unrewarded. It means Innisfail now sit atop the league.

In many ways the 1-2 loss represented a triumph of physical force over skill. From the start Innisfail tried to knock their opponents off their game, targeting certain players. Head coach Jason Murrell and assistant coach Greg Schmidt said the Steelers responded sluggishly, before taking the fight to Innisfail in the second half of the game, forcing their goalie into some fine saves.

Murrell said the Steelers were enjoying a good season, despite the loss.

“We have high expectations because we know we can beat every team in the league,” he said.

On Friday at the Agrena, the Steelers crushed Rocky Royals 8-1, with Brett Bujold scoring a hat-trick.
