Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Fabulous Las Valley …
There was plenty of razzle-dazzle at the Rich Valley Agri Plex last Sunday during a high-energy ice carnival.
Twenty-four skaters ranging in age from three to 16 turned on the style before an appreciative audience.
Clad in a variety of dazzling costumes, they danced and glided, spun and twisted, pulled off axels and camel spins and much, much more besides – each feat greeted with rapturous applause.
Solo performances abounded, but groups also participated, including the CanSkate Boys, the Can Skate Group and the StarSkate Group.
Perhaps the biggest ovation went to the youngest skater, three-year-old James White, who emerged to the smooth sounds of Frank Sinatra singing “Fly Me To The Moon.”
James, in his first year skating, could do no wrong. His face wreathed in smiles, he clearly enjoyed his spell in the spotlight.
Also having a ball was seven-year-old Kirsty Fauque, who looked a million dollars as she interpreted ABBA’s “Money, Money, Money,” skating around two bank bags.
The other performers were: Amanda De Zaeyer, Nicole De Zaeyer, Jayden Ewasiuk, Drew Fitzgerald, Sydney Fitzgerald, Tamara-Ann Gerhardt, Joshlyn Hayes, Madison Jackson, Tyson Jackson, Delaney Klein, Levi Kristiansen, Luke Kristiansen, Erika Petrie, James Petrie, Kane Ross, Kourtlynn Ross, Ryan Thompson, Taylor Tyschuk, Clarice White, Jessica White, Rebecca White, and Sierra White.
Coach Rolanda-Lyn Fauque, known as Hart, also took to the ice, warmly applauded by spectators and fellow skaters when she was introduced in the grand finale.
This was the 34th edition of Rich Valley Skating Club’s annual ice carnival, always one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the local calendar. MC for the afternoon was BJ De Zaeyer.
One of those who rarely misses a carnival is Carol De Zaeyer. She was there on Sunday cheering on her granddaughters, Amanda and Nicole.
A resident of Rich Valley for 47 years, she moved to Barrhead last year. The Valley, however, will be her home.
“It’s a great community,” she said.
