OHL Roundup: Spitfires down Spirit to extend streak, Bulldogs double up Battalion

WINDSOR, Ont. — The surging Windsor Spitfires kept their win streak alive Thursday, downing the Saginaw Spirit 8-5 in Ontario Hockey League play. 

The high-scoring affair saw Wyatt Johnston (two goals, one assist), Matthew Maggio (two goals, one assist), Will Cuylle (one goal, two assists) and Ethan Meidema (three assists) each contribute three points for the Spitfires (36-16-6), who won their fifth straight.

Windsor's Nicholas DeAngelis, Daniel D'Amico and Alex Christopolous also scored.

The Spirit (18-39-1) got two goals and an assist from Dalton Duhart and one of each from Josh Bloom. Pavel Mintyukov and Olivier Savard rounded out the scoring.

STEELHEADS 4 PETES 3

PETERBOROUGH, ONT. — Dylan Gordon broke a 3-3 deadlock 14:17 into the third period, lifting Mississauga (35-20-6) to its second win in a row. Peterborough (24-29-5) went 2 for 4 on the power play as the Petes dropped their third straight.

BULLDOGS 6 BATTALION 3

NORTH BAY, ONT. — Mason McTavish put up a goal and three assists as Hamilton (41-12-4) doubled up North Bay (35-18-6). The loss snapped the Batallion's seven-game win streak.

ICEDOGS 7 OTTERS 4

ST. CATHARINES, ONT. — Erie (23-30-4) scored first but Niagara (19-35-4) jumped out to a 3-1 lead before the end of the first period and refused to relent. Liam Van Loom scored a hat trick and added an assist for the IceDogs, who handed the Otters their sixth straight loss.
