LILY ALLEN
Lily passed away peacefully on February 3, 2022 at the age of 98 years in the Barrhead Hospital, Barrhead Alberta.
She will be fondly remembered by her loving son, Richard, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Lily was predeceased by her loving husband George on April 8, 2006, her father and mother, three brothers and two sisters, and all of her in-laws.
Lily was born Oct 8, 1923 in Neerlandia, Alberta (the fourth child of Klaas and Jana Krikke).
She took her public schooling in Neerlandia, High School in Barrhead and completed it by correspondence. She went to Edmonton where she trained for three years at the Royal Alexandra Hospital to attain her diploma as a Registered Nurse which she received in 1950.
In 1951 she received a Post Graduate certificate from the Provincial Mental Hospital in Ponoka, Alberta.
In 1955 she completed a Post Graduate Course in Operative Aseptic Technique at the John’s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Her work took her to several hospitals in Canada, the USA, and Alaska. While working at the Calgary General Hospital she met George Allen -a flying farmer from Craigmyle, Alberta. They were married in 1965 in Neerlandia, Alberta and resided on the farm in Craigmyle where their son, Richard was born in the Hanna General Hospital. Lily and her son Richard moved to Barrhead in December 2008. Lily enjoyed art, music, poetry, quilting, and gardening. She loved animals, birds and flowers and delighted in a beautiful colorful sunrise and sunset. She wishes to be placed in the Craigmyle Cemetery beside her loving husband George who predeceased her in 2006.
Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from Rose Garden Chapel.
