Glen Allan Ambury

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glen Allan Ambury on January 15th, 2023; after a brief and courageous struggle with cancer, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones.

Born on December 14th 1949 to Anne Atkins and George Ambury; Glen is survived by his son, Dennis Merkel (Laura), his nieces and nephews; Jason Ambury, Kerri Kedziora (Peter), Lloyd Ambury (Jennifer), Dale-Lynn Desabrais (Leon) and Matthew Dowhan (Trina); his grandchildren Darcy, Aarin and Tyler as well as his great nieces and nephews; Ashley & Jessica (Zim); Carly & Brette; Carrie and Jacob, Jordan, Kyle (Kaylie) and Kaitlyn (Alex), Kenneth and Ayom. Also survived by cousins Kathy Watson (David); John Ambury (Dajana), Jim Ambury (Barb), as well as his companion, Marilyn Alarie; and so many dear friends and extended family; too many to list here.

Glen was predeceased by his father, George Ambury, mother Anne Lipka (nee Atkins), Step-father Albert Lipka, his brother Kim Ambury and his dearest cousins, Bob & Molly Ambury.

Glen spent his early years working the family farm alongside his father George and later on as a hail and crop adjuster at Alberta Hail And Crop. He owned and operated Westlock Towing for a number of years followed by a brief period at Fas Gas on Clyde Corner. Glen affectionately reminisced often about his days working alongside his brother Kim in a business partnership at Texaco in Westlock when the brothers were in their early 20’s. Glen always fell back on his truck driving skills to generate income intermittently throughout his life. He drove for Coca Cola in his late 20’s, worked as a water hauler alongside his son Dennis for a time and worked with his lifelong friend Clarence Shultz off and on hauling hay.

Glen was a man of many talents; he will be most fondly remembered by all that knew him for his ability to make friends everywhere he went; taking care to make any person that had the privilege of knowing him feel as though they were the most important of all.

Glen will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched with his kind manner and genuine compassion throughout his lifetime.

Memorial Services will commence in the beauty of the warmer season, dates to be announced in future.
