Steve Bilida

With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of Steve Bilida at 92 years old on February 20, 2025. Born on April 15, 1932, in Athabasca, Alberta, on a farm, Steve led a life full of warmth and dedication.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elsie, of 58 years, his daughters, Gloria Bilida-Tymchak (Terry) and Cindy Olynick (Dennis), his brother Edward Bilida (Barb), 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve is predeceased by his parents Mary and Dan Bilida, his brother Bill, his sisters Mary, Eileen, and Rosaleen, his daughter Darlene, his son Dwayne, and his grandsons Ryan and Dustin.

Steve was a man of many interests and ventures. He began his journey by owning two service stations, engaging in farming, and driving trucks. He hauled logs and later worked for another company, transporting primarily beef and pork to Montreal and Toronto, eventually owning his own truck.

Steve then transitioned into real estate in Edmonton, starting with Graham Realty before moving on to sell new homes for Oakridge Development. After living in St. Albert, he purchased a farm in Athabasca and began farming in 1978. Steve also engaged in commercial fishing with Elsie until 1989.

In December 1989, Steve and Elsie sold their farm and relocated to Parksville, BC, on Vancouver Island. Steve’s passion for fishing continued as he acquired a boat named “Grey Eagle” in 1992. Together, Steve and Elsie fished in the Strait of Georgia and Alberni Canal until 2014, when he decided to sell the boat.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their kindness, care, and compassionate support.

Steve will be sadly missed, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

“Time for me to go now, I won’t say goodbye: Look for me in rainbows way up in the sky.”
