FRANK BURY

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Frank Bury, of Athabasca, AB, on October 14, 2023.

Frank was born June 29, 1944 in Athabasca, AB. He was the third of six children born to Anna and Thomas Bury, but was the first in the family to be born in a hospital. The doctor jokingly described him as being all arms and legs.

Frank grew up on the family farm in Richmond Park, AB. He married Lorna Jewell on October 7, 1967, and together they made a home in Athabasca, lovingly raising their three children, Dean, Joanne, and Dalon. Frank’s pride and joy was his family, and his family cherished him equally in return. He had the power to make everything seem better and the ability to fix anything.

At work he was Frank of Lloyd’s and Frank’s Backhoe Service and he had a reputation for being hardworking, reliable, and honest. Outside of work he was a gentle, quiet man known for his acts of kindness.

Frank enjoyed many seasons hunting with his father-in-law at the cabin near Calling Lake. And when they were old enough, Dean and Dalon would join them on the journey to the trapline, bringing back home stories and lessons learned. In his later years, Frank loved to winter with Lorna in Arizona, and together they were lucky enough to visit many places around the world.

Over the years, Frank and Lorna had the joy seeing their family grow to include fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They spent many hours attending school events, games, concerts, and the like with each of them to make sure they all felt special. Frank was like a father to his son-in-law, Pierre. He gave all of us so much to remember.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, and recently by his older brother, Albert Bury. Being the quiet, private person he was, Frank did not wish a funeral.
