CAPIUK, Lulu Celia

The family of Lulu Celia Capiuk of Barrhead, Alberta is saddened to announce her passing on July 17, 2021, at the age of 92.

The youngest child of Louis and Ruth Horn, Lu was raised on the family farm in the Stewartfield district. She had six older siblings; Doug (Evelyn), Ellen (Levi “Bush” Meunier), Ruth (Jack Rawcliffe), Viola (Keith Bowick), Nancy (Bill Ostaficiuk), and John (Rita).

In her early years she enjoyed going to school, sewing, knitting, and playing softball.

She married Harold Jensen in 1949 and they moved to a farm in the Mosside district. She and Harold welcomed five children; Ruth (deceased), Judy, Peter (deceased), Bruce (Lori) and Tom (Iris).

Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both went on to be remarried.

Lu left Mosside for a time and traveled to Fort McMurray where she worked in a jewelry store, operated the switch board for a chain of motels and was a cook at a lumber camp. She moved back to the Lawton district in 1978 and started her life with Nick Capiuk, welcoming Nick’s children into their blended family; Danny (Brenda), Arnie (Debbie), Steve (Ashley), Sue (Peter) and Louise (Joe).

She lived on the Capiuk family farm until her passing where she enjoyed the farm life. She always had a big garden and fruit trees. She was an excellent cook and pie baker. Everyone who entered her home or joined the family was welcomed with open arms.

She was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren from both sides of the family as well as many nephews and nieces.
