GEORGE CAVE

With deep sadness we announce that George Cave passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024 at the age of 83 years.

George is predeceased by Charlotte, his loving wife of 35 years, parents Oliver and Toini, sister Joyce, brothers John and Larry, sister-in-law Kathy, and brother-in-law Brian, Keith, George and Gerald. He is survived by his four children Andrew, Joanne (Geoff), Richard and Brian and siblings Sandra, Jim (Cathy), Nancy (Ilija), Norman (Carol) and Teresa.

Born April 17, 1941 in Creighton Mine, Ontario, George spent his childhood on a tobacco farm in Brantford with his parents and siblings. As a young man he travelled the world, spending time in countries such as Australia, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Ireland. When he returned to Canada, he completed his apprenticeship to become a heavy duty mechanic. He married Charlotte in 1981 and they purchased a farm north of Edmonton in Perryvale, Alberta. George started his own repair shop on the farm and enjoyed spending time with their many friends and neighbours in the community. George and Charlotte later relocated to Sherwood Park, where he worked at Ventures West Transport LP until his retirement. In his later years, George was a very devoted caregiver to Charlotte after she was diagnosed with Early-onset Alzheimer’s.

George was a generous, gentle and adventurous spirit. He was often gardening, picking up litter in his neighbourhood, donating to charitable causes, working on various “inventions” and helping his friends and neighbours. He enjoyed skiing, canoeing, picking saskatoon berries on the farm and making Finnish crepes for his family on Sunday mornings. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and we will miss him greatly.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Samuel Haynes and the amazing staff at Lifestyle Options Terra Losa, who provided kind and loving care for George in the final 5 years of his life. Donations in George’s memory can be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

A celebration of life will occur on January 4, 2025 at 11am at Bison Lodge (formerly Pioneer’s Cabin) in Edmonton with lunch to follow and all are welcome.
