It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the

passing of Victoria Martha Dowhaniuk, of Thorhild, AB,

on July 31, 2023.

She will be remembered by her loving husband Clarence

Dowhaniuk of 66 years, her daughters Valerie MacDonald

(Dave Howard) and Charlotte Dowhaniuk (Russell Watts),

grandchildren Brandon and Brianna MacDonald and Tayla

and Jenna Watts, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and

friends.

Born and raised on a farm in Thorhild, hard work was

embedded into Victoria. She went to the University of Alberta

to start her teaching career and then moved to Big Valley with

her husband where they resided for 46 years. Victoria’s grade

2 students were blessed with her enthusiastic teaching skills

for 42 years. Upon retirement, Victoria and Clarence moved

back to the Dowhaniuk family farm in Thorhild where her love

for the outdoors and the country were reconnected. As an avid

gardener she created many gorgeous flower and vegetable

gardens. Her love for sports made her qualified to give her

coaching opinions and she loved conversing through phone

calls and letters to many cherished people.

Victoria was predeceased by her parents Thomas and

Margaret (Bodnar) Wasik, and brothers and sisters Victor

(Mae) Wonsik, Lena (Jack) Onyschuk, Jennie (Leo) Iwaskow,

Wesley (Helen) Wasik and Eugene Wasik.

A funeral service will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in

Thorhild, AB on August 8, 2023, at 11:00am with a lunch to

follow at the Thorhild Community Hall.
