Marian Catherine Elliott

It is with great sadness that the family of Marian Elliott announces her passing at the Westlock Healthcare Centre on June 16, 2022. Marian (Marnie) was born December 11, 1953 in Montreal, Quebec. She was the youngest child of Scottish immigrants James and Elizabeth Wilson (McElroy).

Marnie moved around a lot as a child since her father was in the military but spent the majority of her youth in the White Rock area of British Columbia where she graduated from Semiahmoo High School. She then attended Douglas College before leaving British Columbia to attend the University of Alberta in Edmonton where she completed her physical education degree and other educational requirements to become a teacher.

She began her teaching career in Cold Lake, Alberta and then spent several years teaching physical education at Westlock High School (R. F. Staples). Her passion was coaching and during her teaching career she mostly enjoyed working with the girls’ basketball teams. After leaving teaching she enjoyed working with the girls and young women associated with her daughter’s ringette teams.

Marnie is survived by her husband Bruce, whom she met while teaching in Westlock, son Kier (Tina), daughter Dru (Kyle), grand-daughter Evangaline, grand-son Lachlan, step-daughter Lora (Dave), step-son Marshall (Holly), sister Lily (Brian), brother James (Dwli), and other relatives and friends.

She was pre-deceased by her parents and her older brother Ian.

In following Marnie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Anyone wishing to commemorate Marnie’s life is encouraged to donate towards the support and development of female youth sports in the Westlock community.
