Richard Allan Ellwein

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear husband, dad, grandpa, and friend, Richard Allan Ellwein, at the age of 77 on Saturday, November 28, 2021. On January 25, 1944, Rick was born in East Coulee and had been known for being a prominent hunter, fisher and ballplayer since his early years. He moved to Barrhead in 1967, creating a lifetime of friendships and memories. In his very adventurous life, he created a beautiful family with his wife, Vivian( Properzi) Ellwein. She surrounded and cared for him till his last day.

Rick is survived by his wife, children Stacey Jacobsson (Johnny), Jodi de Vries (Rob), Chais Ellwein (Lindsay), grandchildren; Annika (Tyrell), Mattias, Belle, Tait, Cruz, Aria, Carter, Burke, and siblings; Darlene Atkinson (Robert), Bill Turner (Toby), and Art Ellwein. Rick loved spending every second outside that he could. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, sitting around a campfire, and attending to his yard. He especially treasured time spent with his family and telling stories. He will be greatly missed. Our lives are forever changed because of the way he loved us.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 4 at Naples Hall at 1:00 pm.

Memorial Donations in Richard’s name may be given to STARS or Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
