It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Grandmother Doris May Halman (Johnston) on Monday, May 25, 2020, at the age of 87. The beloved wife of the late Lawrence Halman and dear sister of the late Diane Ellefson (Ole). Loving mother of Richard, Barry (Jackie), Amber (Steve), and Ian (Nancy). Cherished grandmother of Lindsay, Kendra, Jordan, Charles, Nick, and Adam. Adored sister of Ione Senyk and Donald Johnston and treasured Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. 

Doris was born in Athabasca March 28, 1933, to Slim and Alice Johnston (Pratt). She attended school in West Athabasca and Athabasca. Doris worked at several jobs in and around Athabasca until she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954. There she met her husband Larry. After leaving the Air Force, Doris and Larry settled in Ottawa and embarked upon careers with Canada Post and the Federal government. There they lived the rest of their lives except for short interludes in Halifax and Edmonton. During this time, they raised a family of four. Doris was excellent at Bridge she remembered every card played. She returned to Athabasca as often as she could to be with family and enjoy the cool summer nights. 

Doris was predeceased by her husband Larry in 2018, her sister Diane in 2019, her brother-in-law Steve in 2011, and her sister-in-law Lynda in 2000.

Doris was a kind and caring person who loved children and will be missed dearly. She battled dementia for the last few years of her life but remained respectful and caring to the people around her.

Due to current restrictions services will be held privately.
