Born in Twickenham, England on June 7, 1924, Sheila was the beloved daughter of Charles and Frieda Boyce. During the Second World War, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Jackson. They were married on May 15, 1945, and Sheila immigrated to Canada as a war bride in the spring of 1946. Together, they built a life on their farm west of Meanook in the George Lake community, where they raised their five children.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband Ken; her parents, Charles and Frieda; her sister-in-law, Connie Jackson; her son-in-law, Patrick Thompson; and her great-granddaughter, Victoria Rose Gwartney.
She leaves behind a loving family: her children Patricia (Gerry) Handfield, Margaret (Tom) Gwartney, Ian (Charlene) Jackson, Brenda Thompson, and Barbara (David) Werenka; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Sheila was deeply devoted to her family and community. She worked side by side with Ken on the farm and in the garden and was an active and faithful member of her local church and the Women’s Institute (WI). A remarkable role model and the heart of our family, she was cherished by so many throughout her long and meaningful life. Sheila will be remembered for her unwavering strength, quiet resilience, and the boundless love she gave to those around her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Extended Care facility for the compassionate care Sheila received.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Athabasca Missionary Church (4008 – 50 Ave), with a reception to follow at the Meanook Community Hall.
