Shirley Johnston

Part of Shirley’s heart and soul will forever remain on the Colinton property that she had lovingly built with her husband Neil (deceased 2021).

Parks Canada would have been proud of how this couple worked to maintain their property to the highest standard!

Shirley passed away on July 2nd, 2024, surrounded by her loving sons, David and Vernon. Our mother had taught us so much in the last few weeks of her life. A life well lived, courage, strength, blessings of family, willingness to let go of earthly belongings and acceptance of the next chapter of the circle of life. Simple acts of holding her hand and having strength to talk about all the great moments of being a family are truly blessed experiences. Watching our mother hug her younger sister Janet her husband Lorne, and to share that closing chapter was beautiful. Having our mother tell us that her sons are strong, and that she has nothing to worry about was so reassuring. She spoke about it was time to join her husband and her best friend Lynda (deceased & wife of David) in heaven. As with our father we are confident that Shirley was greeted by a caring hand at the doorway to heaven.

Shirley leaves behind an amazing family. Her son David Johnston, of Colinton, stepchildren Christine, Dennis & Eric, step grandchildren Willow, Sharleen, Brennan, Anastasia, Connor, stepchildren Troy (Katrina) Cartwright, Travis (Nikki) step grandchildren, Vincent, Levi Cory & Dustyn & Brandon. Her son Vernon Johnston of Kelowna, BC with his wife Teresa & their children Kayla & Ian. She leaves behind her loving sister Janet and her one brother Larry.

Our mother absolutely enjoyed her time on earth, caring for her family, her friends, taking care of all things small and large (especially the birds and the horses), and will be missed dearly. Her son David, each time that he saddles up on the next adventure will have her with him as they continue to share life’s adventure! Vernon will, as he explores the wonder of the backcountry on skis and rides a memorial motorcycle, will be sharing these adventures in memory of a great mother.

Celebrate a life well lived. We love you, Mom!
