KELM, EWALD (WALLY)
On October 14, 2024, the very rich and full 95-year journey of Ewald Kelm came to a peaceful end surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind his wife of 73 years, Mae, and his three sons, Roy, Don, and Brian, their families, and many grand and great grandchildren.
He joins his father, August (1972), his brother, Alexander (1984), his mother, Maria (1987), his sister, Olga (2006), and his grandson, Steven (2002).
His journey began on July 31, 1929, born in Leduc, Alberta, to a recently immigrated family looking to put down roots and make a new start in Canada. August and Maria established their homestead near Tiger Lily where Ewald grew up learning the value of hard, honest work, and the importance of community.
After a few years spent living in Barrhead where he fortuitously met the love of his life, Mae Lois Sutherland, Ewald then spent most of his remaining years farming and raising cattle on the family homestead, and watching his family grow.
In accordance with his final wishes, there will not be a memorial service. It was Ewald’s request that everyone remember him as he was.
We that are left behind see this as a life well lived.
Ewald indeed lived life fully and left his mark on many. He laughed often, with a smile that disarmed and welcomed everyone. He loved his family and friends deeply. He was a man that earned the respect of those around him, and much like the land he spent his life tilling, he earnestly and humbly cultivated the love of his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren.
He leaves behind a meaningful legacy. He dutifully filled the role that life anointed him with, and he accomplished this task by always believing that he could do more. He left the world better than he found it.
Ewald looked for the best in others and gave freely. He never missed an opportunity to offer his help, and if those opportunities did not present themselves, he would find them.
Our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, departed this world thinking first of those he was leaving behind. He searched the tears of those of us saying goodbye for the comfort of knowing that we would all be ok. And because of him, and for him, we all will be.

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness but of power. They speak more eloquently than 10,000 tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief and unspeakable love.”
— Washington Irving
Rest well, Ewald.
