It is with sad hearts we announce that Michael Klaczek passed away peacefully on April 25th at the age of 89.

He was born in Poe, Alberta, in 1931 to Stefan and Anne Klaczek who had recently immigrated from Poland. Mike grew up on his parent’s farm, canoeing, fishing and getting into lots of mischief with his younger brother Frank and sister Adele.

In 1957 he married Joyce Reneau, settled in Athabasca, and had two son’s Calvin and Curtis. Mike and Joyce continued to farm and bought their own business, a gas station and car wash, in 1973. Mike ran the business and coached his sons’ hockey and baseball teams. Later in life he helped Cal on the farm and enjoyed his five grandchildren. Mike is predeceased by his parents and his wife, Joyce. He leaves to mourn him, his sons Calvin (Barb) and Curtis (Esther), his grandchildren Nathan, Ryan, Ian, Amanda and Chantelle, brother Frank (Joan) and sister Adele (Ed, deceased), and numerous friends and relatives. Mike will be remembered as always liking to tease, giving a chuckle and a grin. The family thanks the Athabasca Hospital and Extendicare Athabasca. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held this summer (date to be announced) as Covid restrictions allow.
