Lydia Koberstein nee Dotzlaf
1940-2025
With great sadness we announce the death of Lydia on January 31st, 2025. She passed away peacefully in hospital after a brief illness with family by her side.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Herb, her children Darcy (Ashley) and Tracy (Olaf), and her grandchildren Isabel, Madeleine, Chrystal, Courtney and Chad. May she be reunited with her son Brad, who passed away in 2009.
She will also be sadly missed by her sisters Louise (Jerry), Elsie (Bill), and Alvina (George). May she be reunited with her brothers Robert (Irene) and Sam (Gladys), who both left us in 2008.
She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, but especially by George, Deb, and Twig.
Lydia grew up in Mellowdale and, after a few years living with her sisters in Edmonton, returned to the area and farmed with her husband in Meadowview.
She was a very kind and fair person, who enjoyed reading and was an excellent cook. She made good use of her varied and productive vegetable garden, extending the season with a greenhouse, and canning and freezing good things for winter, when she passed the time with jigsaw puzzles, feeding the birds, and watching TV.
Maybe she didn’t operate the big equipment, but she was a partner in all aspects of farming, from driving a truck (even though she never had a driver’s license) to checking on the cows every four hours in calving season.
Five years ago, she and Herb sold the farm and moved to Barrhead. Six months ago, she was convinced that it was time to sell the house, move to a home, and finally put her feet up. Sadly for her and for us, underlying medical conditions started to make real problems, and she was admitted to hospital on January 21st. We are so heartbroken that she has left us behind.
Funeral Service for Lydia will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM from Rose Garden Chapel.
Lydia will be buried in Meadowview Lutheran Cemetery.
Our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the compassionate care and medical attention Lydia received at Barrhead Healthcare Center. We would like to thank all the support staff, nursing staff, and doctors, especially Dr. Tawfik, for doing a remarkable job and finding the time to also help us in this most difficult time.
