Ethel Moffett

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ethel Moffett announce her sudden and peaceful passing at the age of 80 years.

Ethel will always be loved and missed by her daughter, Gillian Lee; son-in-law, Tim Lee; grandsons, James and David; as well as extended family and friends both in Canada and Ireland.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eric Moffett; and her parents, James and Elizabeth Gordon.

Ethel was born and raised in Ballyclare, Northern Ireland. She met and married the love of her life, a Belfast boy, when she was 23. Gillian came along a year later, and the family lived in various placed throughout County Antrim, moving frequently – Ethel loved to buy and sell houses! She also loved to travel, and in 1974, they decided to see more of the world and made the move to Canada, settling in Alberta. Ethel spent most of her career working for the federal government in employment insurance – she loved her colleagues and the clients they helped. Gillian met Tim and in 1991 they were married in Barrhead - within a few years, there were two grandsons for Ethel to spoil. Eric passed away in 1997 – this was very difficult for her as they were inseparable. Ethel spent time with her grandsons, and became more involved in the community. She loved her life in Barrhead, and made many good friends over the years.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Wepener, the Barrhead Healthcare Staff, and Barrhead Ambulance staff for their compassionate care of Ethel.

Keeping with Ethel’s wishes, cremation will take place and no service will be held. Ethel will be laid to rest in the Barrhead Field of Honour with her husband by the family at a later date.

In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Ethel can be made to the Barrhead Healthcare Centre or the charity of one’s choice.
